Meet the team: Susanta Mallick joins Midagon as Senior Managing Consultant
Finland is my second home and soon I will have lived here half of my life. I was brought up in the 70's in the east part of India - a small town in the state of Odisha, which today is a smart city. After receiving my university degree in electrical engineering, I moved to Bangalore to explore the Indian Silicon Valley. There, I had the opportunity to work in a joint venture between British Aerospace and an Indian premier aeronautics and aircraft manufacturing company, where I learnt a lot about its ERP system built in Unix and Oracle.
In the late 90's, my dream was to work in the USA or UK, and that dream came true when I received an exciting offer to work in Redwood City. However, due to a huge backlog of H1B visas for Y2K, my application got delayed and at the same time I was selected to work in Nokia as a consultant for its global logistics system. Thus, my journey took a different path. I decided not to wait for my US visa and instead relocated to Finland. In the summer of 99, I landed in Helsinki. I can still remember the smell of fresh buns and coffee in R-kioski on the first day I arrived 22 years ago.
Life & work in Finland
After 6 months working with Nokia’s ERP and logistics system, my contract was extended for another year. During that time, I met my Finnish wife and had fallen in love with the country’s nature, summer and lovely people. This forged my decision to stay in Finland. In 2002, I joined Nokia’s data warehouse team where we used all cool tools and cutting-edge technology during Nokia's massive growth. The systems, tools and data also grew exponentially. After 5 years with Nokia, I moved to Accenture as a senior consultant. I had always looked forward to working with SAP ERP to better understand the complex source systems. Later I received an exciting opportunity to join the Nokia SAP team which I enthusiastically accepted. During 2010-11, a major SAP renewal program provided an exciting opportunity to lead a team of experts where we were looking into all 150+ applications and integrations of Nokia’s SAP backbone. After huge success, I was requested to join a similar ERP renewal program with Nokia Siemens Networks. This time it was for the finance stream, where I led an expert team of 40 finance consultants and an extensive network of 100+ global users. What an amazing journey! My teams did an outstanding job - all credit to the best people. I left Nokia in 2016 and got the chance to enhance my skills in all major public clouds like AWS and Azure. After this I did freelancing work in digital transformation. Most recently, before joining Midagon, I was with a growth hacking start-up where I was in charge of overseeing the end-to-end product development in a CTO role for several products in multiple domains such as health tech, clean tech and food tech.
Passion for food & culture
I am a big time foodie. I love to explore different cuisines and cook with my lovely daughter – from Mediterranean to Mexican, pasta to wok, chicken tikka masala or palak paneer to salmon soup - we ensure delicious results! As a health and wellbeing enthusiast, I love to practice meditation and yoga, go jogging or walk with our dog in the nearby forests to breathe fresh air. Finland being the happiest country in the world, I would love to see more and more people become conscious and take better care of their health and wellness. Personally, I advocate for sustainability, environmental affairs and the health and wellbeing of children.

For me, Midagon's success story can be described using the following pillars: strong leadership, very good people processes, attracting and retaining the best talent with good incentives and employee benefit structure, excellent sales and marketing, and the high performing consultants. I learned about Midagon and its founder around 12 years ago when I was still with Accenture. Since that time, I have always valued the company as a great place to work.
